Located at the CubCrafters Northeast regional office, this airplane Super Cub was recently rebuilt by its current owner, a retired heavy equipment contractor who has a great deal of knowledge and pays careful attention to detail in regard to all things mechanical.
He bought the airplane in 2011 with original, but tired, Piper paint and fabric. Rather than just do a repaint, the owner spent the money to restore the aircraft correctly and very quickly took it to Ed-Aire Inc., who did a masterful covering job. In total close to $77,000 was spent for parts and labor to restore this gorgeous cub.
The complete, no expense spared, rebuild was finished in January 2012. The airframe was stripped to bare metal and inspected before being epoxy primed and reassembled with a new CubCrafters firewall and boot cowl. The aircraft was covered with Stits Poly-Fiber fabric and painted classic yellow. Firewall forward the Lycoming 0-320 engine was remanufactured to factory specifications. Also installed were new slick mags, a new starter, a new carburetor, a new alternator, a new oil cooler, a new Steve’s gascolator, a Reiff oil pan heater, and a remanufactured Sensenich prop (74D-m6-0-56). The wings were rebuilt with vortex generators to improve slow speed performance and handling characteristics, and wingtip strobes were installed for added visibility. In the cockpit, all new windows were installed, new seatbelts were installed and shoulder harnesses added, along with a Rosen sun visor and leather seats. Avionics include a King KX155 com radio and a KT76 transponder.
N4156V is super light with an empty weight of only 1062lbs. With a gross weight of 1750 lbs., the aircraft has a respectable a 688 lb. useful load. The Airplane shows like new, the outside is a 9.5 on a scale of 10 and inside a 9.0. Since the rebuild, the owner flew it in fair weather locally in southern Indiana visiting friends grass strips and taking his grandchildren for rides. It has been hangared since the rebuild and just came out of annual in December 2016. The airplane just flew 700 miles to Saratoga, New York with no issues and no oil consumption. Log Books are complete and just as nice as the airplane. There hasn’t been a nicer classic Super Cub on the market for a long time; this one is ready to go for your 2017 flying adventures!
